Welcome to the ASG Senate
What is the ASG Senate?
The Senate is the legislative branch of the Associated Student Government. It is composed of 40 members, representing both the six undergraduate schools and a number of Northwestern’s largest and most prominent student groups.
The Senate collects ideas for campus reform from students like you, and debates them as legislation. There are two primary types of legislation: “Enacting” and “Resolving.”
Enacting legislation takes a binding action within ASG itself, while Resolving legislation (or “resolutions”) take a stance on an issue on behalf of the student government. In either case, it is then the responsibility of the executive board to turn that legislation into action.
The Senate also oversees multiple major grant programs, including the New Student Organization Fund and Senate Appeals, both of which are described below.
The Senate is one of the most direct ways to get involved with ASG, and its meetings are always open— see the calendar below to see our meeting dates, and other major events!
