How do we operate?
-
Executive Board
The Executive Board is made up of directors and chairs who oversee ASG’s different branches of work—ranging from student organization funding to campus programming, community relations, and communications. Each director manages a portfolio of initiatives, works with university offices, and supervises student staff to carry projects forward. The Cabinet ensures that ASG not only sets ambitious goals but also follows through with tangible outcomes that improve student life.
-
Senate
The Senate is the central decision-making body of ASG. It’s made up of elected representatives from residential areas, schools, and student organizations, ensuring that voices from across campus are heard. Senators meet weekly to debate legislation, vote on funding allocations, and pass resolutions that advocate for changes within the university. Senate is where student perspectives are formally translated into action, making it the heartbeat of ASG’s democratic process.
-
Committees
Committees bring together students providing a structured space for collaboration and advocacy, driving ASG’s day-to-day work in specific issue areas. Committees focus on themes like academics, sustainability, student life, and equity, researching problems and drafting proposals that can later be introduced in Senate or implemented through other means. Together, committees and allow ASG to be both broad in scope and deep in expertise.
-
President's Executive Cabinet
The executive cabinet provides leadership and sets the strategic direction of ASG. This group includes the President, Vice Presidents, and other key officers who oversee major initiatives and represent ASG to university administration. The Board guides the organization’s priorities, ensures that projects align with student needs, and works closely with Senate and committees to turn ideas into results.
-
Student Activities Finance Committee
SAFC is part of the President’s Cabinet and is responsible for distributing student activity fees to hundreds of student organizations across Northwestern. They review funding requests, evaluate budgets, and allocate resources in a fair and transparent way. SAFC plays a crucial role in enabling cultural events, service projects, performances, and programs that define Northwestern’s vibrant student life.
